Our Team

Nancy Speas

My clients describe me as authentic, caring, and creative. I utilize an integrated approach to counseling, drawing on ideas from the person-centered, psychodynamic, experiential, cognitive behavioral, family systems, internal family systems, and play therapy traditions. I particularly enjoy working with young people and their families, with neurodiverse people of all ages, ADHD moms and women, people with a wide array of (dis)abilities, and clients/families experiencing a medical crisis or chronic condition. After working as a school-based therapist in an MNPS middle school, I will always have a heart for anyone dealing with these awkward years, as students themselves or parents. My lived experience as a single mom to both disabled and typically-developing kids/teens and being an ADHD-er myself informs my work as well.

I've got two kids, two dogs, and two cats and over 20 years of experience working with children and their families in a variety of settings. I would be honored to work with you and yours.

I have my Master of Divinity degree from Emory University and a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling/ Marriage & Family Therapy from Belmont. I have completed Onsite's Experiential Therapy Training Institute and received additional training in play therapy, internal family systems, sand tray, short-term cognitive behavioral therapy for suicide prevention, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I'm a Marriage & Family Therapist licensed by the state of Tennessee (#2179).

Rates

Individual counseling is $150 per 50-minute session.

Couples/family counseling is $160 per 50-minute session.

Group counseling rates vary and will be communicated as a group is formed.

Affordable access to mental health care is important to us, and we are excited to share they we now accept most Cigna and Aetna insurance plans. Use of insurance does come with some drawbacks; the decision to utilize insurance benefits for therapy should be discussed with your therapist in advance of your first session. Please note that couples and family therapy are not typically covered by insurance due to lack of strict medical necessity.

A limited number of sliding-scale (discounted) spots are available; talk to Nancy about possibilities. We want therapy to be accessible to everyone.
